Selling is not someone else's problem. It's not something that "those guys" do. Selling is the common thread that weaves together all of our successes, and a broken thread is frequently why we don't succeed. Your ability to sell and to realize that every conversation is a selling moment differentiates the successful from the mediocre. If you were to make a list of everything you have achieved, it will all come back in some part to your ability (whether you realized it or not) to sell yourself and your beliefs. Selling Is the Common Thread of Success!

My parents and a favorite aunt used to say "Reading and math are the common thread" for success – a common denominator, if you will. I became a voracious reader, and my math skills were pretty decent, although I could never figure out what the practical application of knowing geometry really is! Anyway, I want to propose something that is not necessarily new and will not make me the next guru of whatever. But the common thread – the actual behavior that separates the good from the great and the successful from the mediocre is the ability to connect your ability to do something with how it's going to make another life better.
